1968

Wylam Garage was established in August 1968. Alan Conley and his wife Dorothy bought the garage in the village of Wylam. Both at the age of 26, Alan had worked as a mechanic in local village garages and Dorothy had worked for Spillers, Newcastle as a secretary, they decided to set out on the path of self employment. Alan began repairing cars and selling the odd second hand car and Dorothy controlled the accounts/administration side of the business.

During the early years in Business Alan competed in motor rallies throughout the UK competing in Chrysler Imps, The Clan Crusader, Avengers and Sunbeams. Alan became a specialist in these vehicles knowing how to make them reliable through his rallying experiences.

It wasn't long before Alan's reputation of excellent quality and service had spread and the demands for his service had grown.

1978

Wylam Garage was approached by Renault to become a Renault Service Point. Alan and Dorothy saw this as an excellent opportunity and joined the Renault Dealer Network. They began selling new Renaults as well as continuing to repair all makes of vehicles and selling second hand cars.

1985

Alan and Dorothy's son Sean joined the family business and began to manage the car sales side, implementing new ideas along the way and fine tuning the traditional.

1993

Wylam Garage celebrate 25 years in business. Due to a growth in business it has become necessary to modify the premises which will accommodate an 8 car showroom and improved workshop facilities, this resulted in the business becoming a Renault Retail Dealer.

1999

Alan and Dorothy's daughter Debbie joined the team in April and began working in the accounts/administration side of the business.

Wylam Garage continued to expand and opened a second Renault dealership in Hexham, 12 miles from the Wylam branch. New premises were obtained and in June they began repairing and selling new and used vehicles

2004

Due to the Renault-Nissan allianze in 1999, it meant we could become a Nissan dealer. Our Hexham branch was the ideal location. New premises were occupied next to our original showroom and workshop. A new 9 car workshop was constructed and a Nissan showroom was built. The alterations were completed in Sept 2005

2008

Wylam Garage celebrate 40 years in business. Alan and Dorothy are still actively involved in the running of the business and together with their son and daughter and their long standing and new members of staff continue to provide a warm, friendly personal service to the customers.
